Budgam, May 13 (KNO): In Central Kashmir's Budgam district, voting was no less than a festival on Monday as young voters exercised their franchise with a hope that their vote can bring not just the development but everlasting peace followed by resolution of issues confronting them.
As the voting on Srinagar Parliamentary seat begins at 7.00 am, from early morning, queues outside polling stations, reflects a palpable enthusiasm among men, women, and youth eager to exercise their democratic right.
Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), young voters expressed optimism that their ballots could pave the way for much-needed peace and prosperity in the region.
Owais, a first-time voter from Chadoora, emphasized the significance of choosing leaders, who can effectively advocate and work for the community's welfare.
“Casting my first vote brings immense pleasure. It's a chance for us to elect leaders who will advocate and work for our interests,” Owais said.
“I eagerly joined the queue at 7:00 am, determined to cast my vote. Even if it meant waiting all day, I wouldn't miss this opportunity,” said Amir Bashir, another first-time voter from Budgam.
“The turnout witnessed a notable increase, especially in areas where voter participation had previously been low. This surge in voter engagement signals a growing determination among Kashmiri residents to actively shape the future trajectory of their region,” said another young voter.
Arshid Ahmad, another first-time voter, highlighted the eagerness of voters to contribute to the development and tranquility of Kashmir. The long queues observed at polling stations across the district underscored the collective desire for positive change.
“Our goal is to elect a representative committed to Kashmir's development and peace. That's why polling stations are witnessing long queues,” he added.
Zahid, a young voter hailing from Khansahib, has voiced the collective aspiration for change in Kashmir.
Reflecting on the ballot cast, the sentiment resonates with a desire to break free from the tumultuous past and pave the way for a future marked by progress. Emphasizing priorities, the call is for a transformation encompassing educational advancements, infrastructural enhancements including roads and hospitals, and the promotion of tourism hotspots—(KNO)
